What Went Down: Week Ending October 9th, 2022

Newsworthy: 

  • Chase Bank in the UK was down for more than 24 hours on the 4th. Details regarding the cause were not provided. However, the outage reminds us of the complexity of modern systems with cloud dependencies, even for critical services like Chase Bank.

 


New Relic had a major outage on the 7th which impacted website access, data ingest, and alerts for all users. The outage started at 9:47 am PDT and recovery began around 11:00 am PDT.

 

Notable Metrist-Reported Downtime

While these outages didn’t make the news, these issues caught by Metrist may have affected your company’s app and operations. 

Azure

Azure DevOps Artifacts was down for 20 minutes on the 6th. The issue appeared to involve short degradation where latency for package downloads spiked to over 15 seconds, rather than the typical 1/10th of a second.

 

GCP

GCP Compute Engine was down for 1 hour 40 minutes on the 4th. The platform was unable to create new instances in GCP US-East-4 and the errors messages indicated that Google did not have enough resources available.

Saas/Other

  • Zoom was down for 28 minutes on the 3rd: some users in Canada were unable to join calls within 2 minutes.
  • Hubspot was down for 1 hour 28 minutes on the 6th. This major outage impacted the API and some of the web user experience. See more information here.
