What Went Down: Week Ending September 25th

Newsworthy: 

Instagram had a major outage on the 22nd. Both influencers and businesses worldwide were unable to log in or access the app for about two hours starting around 11:45am PT. And like many who have unreliable/slow status pages for their cloud dependencies, many Instagram users went to Twitter for information about the outage.

Notable Metrist-Reported Downtime

While these outages didn’t make the news, these issues caught by Metrist may have affected your company’s app and operations. 

AWS

  • AWS RSDS was unable to create new instances in the AWS US-West-2 Region for 34 minutes on the 19th. 
  • AWS EC2 was unable to run new instances in AWS US-East-1 on the for about 14 minutes on the 23rd.

Azure

  • Azure AKS was unable to remove deployments for about 30 minutes in the Azure East US 2 Region on the 20th, then for 30 minutes in the Azure West US Region on the 21st. 
  • Azure Cosmos DB changed their API and began requiring a parameter that was previously not required. This change started in Azure US East, then rolled to Azure US Central. The irregularities were intermittent for both, then persistent.
